Department Vehicle Electronics

We at the Department of Vehicle Electronics, lead by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Maurer, believe that there are inherent risks in autonomous driving. Our goal is to identify these risks using scientific approaches and to develop mitigation strategies. We communicate these risks to the scientific community as well as to the public. In order to reduce identified risks, we conduct a wide variety of research while applying our concepts to the real world by utilizing our experimental vehicles. In particular, we do research in the fields of

  • environment perception,
  • decision making,
  • self perception,
  • performance degradation,
  • systems engineering,
  • simulation and testing,
  • and safety.

I would like to thank the following people for their great impact and support regarding the publication of the TUBS dataset and labeling tool:

  • Jens Rieken (former PhD student - our vehicle's tracking system)
  • Frederik Book (master student - license plate and face detection).
  • Leon Götz (scientific assistant - labeling tool and calibration),
  • Max Ernst (scientific assistant - calibration and synchronisation),
